It's been eight years since my mum's passing. The last stand-up show I wrote was that year – 2016. It was called Mystic Time Bird, and it was about me trying to get my head around her death and the deeper questions of life and past lives? I explored the possibility of my own past lives being that of many different birds including the magnificent mimicking Lyrebird.
After touring and recording that show I decided to hang up my skinny jeans. It just felt like the right time to leave stage work behind. I was physically and emotionally exhausted and as I was now living in Los Angeles my career had switched focus to TV and Film acting.

Now, eight years later, I've decided to return to the old headset mic. Thankfully I toured with my ‘best of' 25 Years show last year, so I'm not too dusty in front of crowds. The abilities are still there but it's a different ball game crafting new material. Back in the day I would be on stage five nights a week, at my peak sometimes three gigs a night! This is a stand-up comic at full match fitness, even if he (me) is doing the same pure gold 20 minutes each time. When that's happening regularly the mind can create quicker on the spot and new gags can appear every time I perform. I would come off stage and immediately try and remember new bits so I could add them to my repertoire.
