Show no.1 under the belt and what a loose belt it was! Thank you Nottingham for turning up and making some wonderful Friday night noise. The Playhouse offered a fantastic vibe, even though the dressing room felt and looked like the interior of a Soviet mini submarine. Still suffering from jet lag, I took a while to build up the enthusiasm needed to be present for people but luckily Bill Napier was there to lead the way. His natural charm and laid back attitude was the key to starting the evening right. There's nothing like being in good hands and his large manly hands are safe and surprisingly well moisturized. He let it slip to the keen crowd that it was Steve’s birthday, so after the Rhys Darby segment of the show Steve reappeared on stage blind folded holding a cake. He was then walked out onto stage with the help of a stage technician. Steve didn't know what he was holding and so I (Rhys Darby) asked him to remove his blindfold. Then the audience and I (still Rhys Darby) sang him Happy Birthday!
Then Steve said “this is the cake you asked me to go and buy earlier today.”
Yes, yes it was. Then he took a bite of it. He also had a bottle of champagne so we opened that and celebrated our first show of the UK/Ireland tour.
Please note:
The cake turned out to be a cheap knock off of the famous Colin the Caterpillar cake which I asked Steve to get (for himself). He bought a cheaper Cecil the Caterpillar cake from an interior supermarket and pocketed the rest of the money (£2.40)
Also worth noting:
After Steve's one big bite of the cake we awkwardly gave the remains to the crowd. I believe some young fans took it home but the ultimate fate of the remaining caterpillar is unknown.
This might be the first time anyone has referred to Waitrose as cheaper 😂
It was a great show! 🎉
It was my first time seeing a stand up show live and it was a wonderful experience! ❤️
